THE HISTORY OF PETROL

PETROLEUM rightly known as “liquid gold” is one of the most sought after fuel of today’s world. 90% of man’s world use petroleum products for his locomotion. Also in today’s modern world most of world’s energy is produced with help of petroleum products. History says that Greeks invented petrol 4000 years ago. But first commercial oil well was dug by Chinese in the 3 B.C. They pumped out the oil with the help of bamboo. They then refined it and used for heating sea water to separate salt from water. After Chinese it was Japan in 7th century to use petrol. They used the name “burning water” to denote petrol. Then in 8th century it was the Middle East countries that set up a petroleum company. They first extracted tar from petroleum and used for laying roads in Baghdad. Thus it was the first place where tar roads were used. In the 9th century Persian chemist discovered that petroleum could be separated into many by products. These by product of petroleum are Petrol, Diesel, oil, kerosene, white kerosene, LPG, tar, lubricants and many others.
